We're discussing Yangzse Choo's fascinating historical fantasy debut set in 1893 colonial Malaya.

To rescue her family from poverty, Li Lan agrees to become the ghost bride of Lim Tian Ching, the deceased son of one of the city's wealthiest families.

Though dead, Li Lan's bridegroom hints that his was an untimely demise. Now, guided by spirits, Li Lan must undertake a journey into the afterlife to discover the truth.
